Situated in the heart of Raheny village, the Credit Union has evolved
from humble beginnings,in July 1962, to now having an active membership
of almost 8000 and assets of € 30m approx. Our premises O’Doherty
House, are dedicated to the memory of our late founder member and director
Michael O’Doherty.
On 17th
July 1962 a meeting of 14 community conscious people, in the home of
Con O'Sullivan on the Howth Road, led to the formation of Raheny & District
Credit Union Ltd. This was also attended by the legendry Nora O'Herlihy,
then Secretary of the Credit Union League of Ireland and by Sean Forde,
it's Vice President. The first official address and office was " The
Cottage", Main Street, Raheny and a peep through an old minute book
reveals the first Board of Directors to have been as follows :

From an original membership of 21 and total shares of £8.10s.0d, we
have grown to figures of almost 8000 active members and shares of
€ 25m and the most recent year end was 30th September 2005.
One of our founders, Michael O'Doherty was to achieve great acclaim
and fame within the credit union movement not alone nationally but
also internationally, spreading the gospel and ethos of the union
in England, Scotland, America, Canada and many other far away places
with strange sounding names.
Our present status sees us situated in the centre of Raheny village,
with current assets of €30m, a full time staff of three and part
time of six.
